We are three high school students (Cata Parra, Carolyn Mitchell, and Naisha Randhar, class of ‘27) who started Art for Earth because we wanted to find a way to encourage Dallas youth to think deeply about the environment by engaging with the topic artistically. All three of us are interested in a medium of art, so we wanted to find a way to connect those mediums and channel them into real social change. Most kids want to make a difference - but we struggle with how. Art for Earth is an effort to connect kids to each other in the fight for social and environmental justice and to center this fight in the lives of the average youth so that, as a community, we can truly make a difference. We hope the final ceremony will be a community-gathering event where Dallas residents can go to support youth art and environmental justice. In hopes of uplifting youth voices in the war for environmental welfare, the Art for Earth competition gives youth an opportunity to share their art, connect with fellow artists, and become part of the environmental movement. We are committed to joining the efforts of youth and adults to help the environment through arts and unite impact across generations.
